Home for the Holidays

For many reasons, we’re glad it worked out this way, not the least of which is that we get to spend Christmas at home.

We agreed before we started our trip that there were some things we would no-question come home for.  Included in that list was the sale of the Heaton home.  Just a few weeks ago, that became a reality.  I was emailing back a WorkAway assignment in Valparaiso, Chile (our original itinerary for the month of December) when I heard the good news.  We bought our ticket back to the States, snugly fitting it in before our trip to Patagonia, and immediately began planning for some time at home.  By planning, I mean that Daniel put on his Project Manager hat and created timelines, budgets, and checklists for the move, while I beelined to the Peruvian markets where I had otherwise been resisting every urge to buy something. Our packs were both slightly overweight when we checked into our flight from Lima to Atlanta, so I was proud of the precision to which we took advantage of the opportunity.

We are now in Collinsville, VA, packing up the Heaton home, which will forever be “Holly Hill” and not only the home where Daniel grew up, but the place where we were married.  This home has been a part of my life for only the past six years, but it has meant much more than just family.

It's an ironic blessing to be home for some time, a home that grounds us and reminds us of the love and support that got us here.

A lot to be thankful for this year.
