Day 300: April 10, 2017 - An (Almost) Year in Review
We were standing near the Iceland Air ticket counter, pulling out the Sharpie I packed and writing “Heaton” on our travel duffels before stuffing them with our packs and sending them through checked baggage. We realized as we were in line that we didn’t have our name or contact information anywhere on our baggage. That was 300 days ago, and now, our trusty packs have seen the cargo space of 34 aircrafts*, been dirtied up by the underbelly of 30 buses, shoved into 15 train compartments, and even tossed onto a few ferries.
This trip has brought us an immeasurable amount of joy, a perpetual feeling of adventure, and its fair share of frustrations. We’ve written about some of those experiences and posted them on the website to-date, but I’ve chosen to spend much of my time writing a personal journal to remember the little things that help me close my eyes and feel the way I did that day or remember the smells, sounds, and flavors of a place. It is important to me that 10 years from now, when Daniel and my life looks much different, that we don’t forget what this year has meant to us.
With that, I will be posting stories from my 300-page journal throughout the next couple of weeks. Each story will be of a single day. Rather than letting our biases takeover, I let a random number generator choose which days to share.
Ironically, Daniel and I will be spending the next month mostly disconnected from wifi as we travel to some remote places in Nepal including a hike to Mt. Everest Base Camp. All stories are on auto-post, so let’s hope our faith in SquareSpace doesn’t let us down, and we’ll look forward to reconnecting with friends and family soon!
